Former Ben Lomond Athletic Director, Head Boys Basketball, and Head Girls Track Coach Evan Excell was honored Friday, January 27th on the newly name Evan Excell Basketball Court during the halftime of the boys basketball game versus Grantsville. Coach Excell was a 3A State Championship victor coaching at Ben Lomond from 1978-94 before leaving to become the Executive Director at the Utah High School Athletic Association. Coach Excell was joined by his wife, Nicki, children, family members, and former players as the banner with the new court name and collage of past memories was presented. AD Bovee shared a letter written by Utah Jazz CEO of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge celebrating the impact of Coach Excell. “There are so many people here tonight that I’m blessed to be associated with. I came here in 1978 and had 16 wonderful years that I’ll never forget. Our coaching staff was second to none. We had each other’s backs. The players I owe everything to. We love you, Scots,” said Coach Excell.
